About the MERI

The Medical Education & Research Institute (MERI) is a nonprofit medical teaching and training facility in Memphis, Tennessee qualified under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The MERI conducts state-of-the-art, hands-on educational courses for physicians from across the country and around the world.

At the MERI, medical professionals are introduced to the latest innovations in medicine, and have the opportunity to learn first-hand about the most up-to-date medical techniques and technologies. The MERI also supports research in all specialties of medicine, providing physicians and medical professionals with the facilities and resources necessary for developing, testing and refining medical procedures and devices.

Inspired in 1992 by Memphis neurosurgeon Dr. Kevin Foley, today the MERI is governed by a 12-member Board of Directors, which includes leaders from its charitable member organizations Baptist Memorial Health Care Corporation, Methodist/LeBonheur Healthcare and Semmes Murphey Neurologic and Spine Institute.

The MERI is the training facility for a number of medical organizations including the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the North American Skull Base Society, the North American Spine Society, the American Society for Interventional Pain Physicians, the International Spinal Injection Society, and the Physiatric Association of Spine, Sports and Occupational Rehabilitation.

New discoveries and technological innovations are happening every day. As an education and hands-on training facility, the MERI stands at the forefront of furthering medical advances expected to benefit people in communities here at home and around the world for years to come.
